Guess what? You’d be perfect for a boudoir shoot! | Boudoir by Wallflower | Boudoir Photography in Wichita, KS

I met a LOT of women at the Women’s Fair this month!  It was wonderful to get to share just a little about what boudoir is and why I’ve built the studio the way I have: all about women, all about beauty.

However, it made me sad to hear the reactions of so many women who don’t think they could do a boudoir shoot!  I just wanted to say, “That’s why you NEED to come in!”  Instead, I thought I would write a little about some of the most common phrases I heard and why boudoir really is for every woman.

1. If I looked like her, then maybe…

Ladies, we have to stop comparing ourselves to everyone else!  YOU are beautiful!  The women in my sample images do look absolutely stunning…but they are ALL everyday women just like you.  They had no idea they could look that good :)  That’s why I’m here.  The everyday woman is stunning and gorgeous and beautiful and sexy – they just don’t get the opportunity to feel that way or show it off often enough.  Through my posing, lighting, and expression coaching (and with the help of my AMAZING make-up artist and stylist), it is my job and my passion to make you feel the way you deserve to about yourself.  A lot of my clients are in tears as they see their images for the first time – you absolutely deserve to feel that beautiful!

2. If I had that butt…

Again, stop! ;) Seriously, though, most women have a pretty negative view of their booty…but most women don’t have a posing coach around when they’re looking in the mirror!  In my studio, I’m right there every step of the way to make sure you’re accenting your assets.

3. I’ve never done anything like this before.

Great!  I do have repeat offenders, but the vast majority of my clients are first-timers.  No experience necessary :)

4. I don’t know how to look sexy.

It’s a tragic reality that there are tons of photographers out there who expect you to show up, do your thing, and let them snap photos of it.  That’s not how I do things.  I have photographed hundreds of women just like you, and I know how to bring out your best!

5. But, I just don’t take good pictures.

I do, though! ;) Snapshots can be unflattering, expressions awkward, angles wrong…but don’t let a few cell phone snaps kill your self-image!  I LOVE my clients that come into their consultation saying, “I don’t like how I look in pictures…” and leave their ordering session saying, “I can’t believe that’s me!”  Happens all the time :)

6. I’d be way too nervous.

It’s natural to be nervous.  You’re kinda putting yourself out there, right?  I’ve structured my studio and my sessions to make you feel absolutely comfortable and just enjoy your shoot!  This is a place where you can just let your hair down and enjoy being you.  Consultations are free, and I’d strongly encourage you to take that step – come in and talk with me and you’ll see that there’s really nothing to worry about :)

7. If I was ten years younger…

Ten years from now, you’ll be wishing you’d have done this now!  I’ve photographed women in their early twenties and mid-sixties – there’s no wrong time to do your boudoir session.  There’s no age limit on beauty :)

8. I can’t afford it.

A wise photographer/mentor of mine said it best: “You can’t afford not to.”  It’s true that professional, high-quality photography is an investment, but it pays back in so many ways.  I have a canvas of one of my images hanging outside my bathroom so that every morning as I’m getting ready, I can look at that and think, “I am beautiful!”  I even offer weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payment plans (interest free, ahh!)  so that you can get everything you want without breaking the bank :)

9. Well, you just have an answer for everything…

I do! :) I do because I so strongly believe that boudoir is for every woman.  As Jan from The Office said, “There are always a million reasons not to do something.”  Don’t let those things get in the way of what could be one of the best experiences of your life.  You’re worth it.

Country Girl | Boudoir by Wallflower | Boudoir photography in Wichita, KS

countrygirl

She’s a country girl, through and through!  For her second session with me, she pulled out all the stops – snakes, smoke, cowgirl attire, and the best attitude towards a shoot that you could ask for.  Her boudoir session was anything but tame this time around!

My shooting calendar for December is completely booked, but right now is the BEST time to get on my schedule for a Valentine’s session!  Don’t wait…those sessions are already going fast :)

Red Satin and Lace | Boudoir by Wallflower | Wichita, KS Boudoir Photography

redsatinlace

We totally understand clients being nervous to come do a boudoir session…but if this gorgeous girl was nervous, she sure didn’t show it!  She came ready to have a blast, and just owned her shoot.  From the red satin and lace set down to some beautiful nude shots, she never missed a beat, and projected a confidence that really shows through in her photos!

A lot of women are very shy to ask us if we shoot nudes, and the answer is…of course!  Why not? :)  We keep it tasteful, but we are here to make you feel comfortable and confident in your own body, not ashamed of it!

Call us (316.683.0620) or email us (info@wallflowerstudios.net) today to set up your session!

The 300 (A Brief History of the Studio) | Boudoir by Wallflower | Boudoir Photography, Wichita, KS

300

This week, we booked our 300th woman for a boudoir shoot!  So, we thought this would be a great time to look back a little and tell you a little about where all this came from.  But first, let us just say, “Thank you!!” to you all for being awesome and really being the driving force behind our studio’s growth!  Without your word of mouth, kind words, excellent “Confessions“, and excitement about your pictures, we wouldn’t be able to do this.

It’s been an absolutely insane 22 months since we thought, “Hey, boudoir photography…sure!”  That was back in October 2010 – we were “everything” photographers in those days, and while we loved it, it just didn’t fit.  Call it fate, luck, or one too many trips to Vegas…but once we found boudoir, we found who we are as photographers.  After several months of working, learning, training, studying, and all of the frustrations that go into creativity, we finally (timidly) publicly said, “We…um…we, do (shh) boudoir photography…”

Let us be honest for a minute.  We never intended to do this!  Seriously, who would think it’s a really bright idea to dive into boudoir photography in the heart of the conservative Midwest?  We were even told by some pretty major players that it just wouldn’t work…couldn’t be done.  It took a lot of introspection and a lot of very deliberate discussion to even get started in boudoir…but what it boiled down to is that we are really good at making people look feel beautiful.  When we did our first test shoot, Christina was the model and we worked together through shooting it, but the way she felt afterwards sold us on the whole thing!

Wanna see a picture of Christina from our VERY first boudoir session?  Of course you do :)

I still look at the images from that shoot and think, “Wow…”, and it reminds me again how valuable this is.  I remember how she was just radiant with this sense of confidence I hadn’t seen before.  From that experience, we just knew that it’s our job to give that to every woman that comes into our studio.

That first session (and the 199 women that followed) took place in our home studio – a small 15′x25′ room that should have been a living/dining room.  We outgrew that space much sooner than we moved out of it…but by May 2012, we were finally in our beautiful 4000 square foot studio!

So now, we’re not so timid.  We love telling people what we do and why we do it!  We’re boudoir photographers, dammit ;)  We’ve booked over 300 women from all over the Midwest! Who are these women?  They’re moms from Wichita, Derby, Newton, McPherson, and Hutchinson. They’re brides-to-be from Salina, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Topeka.  Wives from Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas, and San Antonio.  Women of all shapes, all sizes, all ages, all occupations, and with every possible reason for coming in from Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico…even 2 from Ireland!

A lot has changed about our studio from the first woman to the 300th, but our focus and goals remain the same.  We are here to create a comfortable, relaxing, and welcoming environment in which you can feel beautiful while we photograph that experience!  We’re still Growing the 3%.

We’re looking forward to many, many more to come!

See you soon :)

The Denim Doll | Boudoir by Wallflower | Wichita, KS Boudoir Photography

We don’t typically get too into props, but this client’s western wear theme just worked for us!  She was looking for a large print to go with her western-themed bedroom’s decor, and definitely got it :)  Her boudoir session also shows that you don’t have to be in lingerie to look amazing!  The casual look is in our top ten, and makes for great images that you can share with anyone.

A look inside! | Boudoir by Wallflower | Boudoir Photography, Wichita, KS

studio-sneakpeek

We thought we’d share just a quick sneak peek inside our beautiful new studio!  It’s already changed quite a bit since this picture was taken, and we’ve got a lot more to do, but we are excited!

We absolutely love our new studio!  It will be the biggest boudoir photography studio for several hundred miles around, and during your session, the whole place is yours!  Kansas has never seen anything like this before…

So, get your consultation scheduled in May, and you can be among the first to check it out!  We’ve already got dozens of sessions lined up in our new studio, and we can’t wait to get it broken in.

More photos and such coming soon!

Confessions | Samantha – Boudoir by Wallflower, Wichita, KS Boudoir Photographer

samantha

We get to photograph some awesome people.  Recently, Samantha came in for a session as a gift to her new husband and from the outset, we knew it was going to be a lot of fun!  We are so grateful that she has allowed us to share some of her images in order to show other women what an experience a boudoir session can be!  So, we got her to sit down in front of the camera and just tell you all some of her thoughts after seeing her pictures for the first time.

Here are a few of the final product – we’re so excited to be able to give her husband such an excellent gift, and to give her a big reason to keep smiling!

Uncovering the Taboo | Boudoir by Wallflower, Wichita, KS Boudoir Photography

womensfocus

If you haven’t seen this month’s WomensFocus magazine yet, go grab one!

WomensFocus approached us last month wanting to do an article about boudoir photography, particularly regarding the taboo surrounding the subject in the Midwest.  We were excited for the opportunity to shed a little light on what boudoir is really about and why we think it is one of the best things a woman can do for herself.  While we couldn’t do any direct studio promotion in the article, we hope it gets women interested and comfortable with the idea of boudoir and really inspires them to do some research when looking for the right photographer for them!

We’re happy that boudoir is making its way into the public eye, and we are honored to be the face and voice of boudoir photography in Wichita!  Thanks to all of you for getting us there :)

You can check out the full text of the article (and our stellar ad) in the online version of the magazine at WomensFocus.com (pg 42!).

Lingerie for Prints! | Boudoir by Wallflower, Wichita KS Boudoir Photography

lingerieforprints

This promotion is no longer available!  We’ll post again if we bring it back :)

We have a huge lingerie collection (over 500 pieces and counting)…and we’re addicted and want more!  So, we’ve decided to start a little “trade program” where you can get prints for the lingerie you buy for your boudoir shoot!  We have had a ton of girls say they bought pieces just for the shoot and won’t wear it again, so we thought, “Why not get something back for your lingerie?”

So, here’s the deal.  We’re breaking it down into categories to keep it simple for everyone, and there are just a couple “rules” that we’ll go over in a minute.  There are basically three major categories of lingerie we’re currently accepting: panties, bras, and actual “lingerie” (corsets, baby dolls, teddies, etc., etc.).  We’ll be trading them as follows:

Panties = “Little Secrets” print

For a pair of panties, we’ll trade a print from our “Little Secrets” category

Bras = “Nightstands” print

For each bra, we’ll trade a print from our “Nightstands” category

Lingerie = “Show Me More” print

Lingerie can include (as mentioned before) corsets, baby dolls, teddies, chemises, and any other piece that can be worn on its own.  We’ll trade these for one of our “Show Me More” prints (we recommend the 8×12 – great size and it doesn’t crop off any of the image like the other sizes in the category do).

Conditions, Rules, and all that

We’ve said it before…we prefer to live in a policy-free environment, but that’s unfortunately not possible.  We do have a few stipulations on the trade program, and we’ll try to list them as concisely as possible here.

1. New or like-new pieces only; if it shows any wear, we will not accept it (these pieces are going in our collection for other women to use in their sessions).
2. Limit one piece from each category for each set you have shot on with us.  The idea is to trade for pieces you got/had specifically for your session.
3. We may not accept all pieces for trade, and that’s up to our discretion.  We already have a TON of lingerie, so duplicate pieces or pieces that we don’t feel will enhance our collection will not be accepted.  Nothing against your lingerie, we just know what we need :)
4. No substitutions.  We’re trying to keep this as simple as possible for everyone, so what’s listed above is what we’ll do.
5. For use on prints only.  We will not do trades for album or product credit, nor for session time.

The trade program is just something we’re trying out, and it could end at any time without notice.

We’re looking forward to growing our lingerie collection and your print collections!

Want to be a model? | Wallflower Studios | Wichita, KS Photographer

Wallflower Studios Wichita, KS Photography

Wallflower Studios Wichita, KS Photography

Wallflower Studios and Boudoir by Wallflower are holding an open casting day!  We do several shoots every year that we need models for and are always looking for fresh faces…not the least of which are the next four fashion shoots we’ll be doing for Splurge! Magazine over the next year!  Note: this is a plain-clothes casting call.  Come looking good, but no need to go over-the-top!  Good jeans and a fitted tee will be perfect.

Since we much prefer to work with models we’ve already shot with, we are setting up a day to have potential models (you!) come by and get in front of the camera for a few minutes.  We will also have model data sheets for you to fill out so that we can keep your measurements on file, so come ready with that!

We are booking in 15 minute increments on 10/8 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  There is NO cost associated with our open casting day, just an opportunity for you to show us what you’ve got!  At this time, we are accepting all models over the age of 18 for all kinds of potential photo shoots, from fashion to boudoir and beyond – you will be able to let us know what kind of modeling you are most interested in.

So, here are the available slots!  We will do our best to keep this updated, but make no promises…  If a time slot you need is full, give us a call to see if we’ve had any cancellations.

***All slots have been filled!  Keep up with our facebook/blog for future casting days!***

Email us for info!  We will be in sessions almost constantly between now and then, but will do our best to return phone calls as well.

See you next Saturday!
